Subject: Dispersed buildings
Toponym: Palazzo Loup
Type: Building
Municipality: Loiano
Locality: Scanello
Description
Originally given the name of Villa delle Fratte ("thickets") - this term suggesting an inaccessible place with a tangle of thorns and branches, such as the site must have been before being built upon - it took on its present layout in the 18th century: the main building serving as a residence, plus stables and other service buildings.
The building's shape and volume evoke the past, with exterior walls sloping outward to meet the ground and stone-framed windows and doors.
It also features small elliptical windows, typical of the period of its construction.
The building housing the stables and servants' lodgings likewise appears as a compact volume, in which a very interesting solution was adopted for the arches in the stable and barn part: flattened arches made up of only two stone blocks resting on posts.
The service building adjacent to the stables also shows interesting constructive features, such as a pair of relieving arches above the oven and a combination of brickwork and stone for the openings.
