Description
The village lies along the old road to Tuscany, and was one of the different way stations serving travellers. Like other similar places, this village was distinguished by the presence of arcades for sheltering the travellers who stopped here.
One of the buildings is endowed with a notable example of a loggia-style porch with segmental arches.
Though it may not seem so today, it was an important place, as is attested by a series of elements: mouldings with Gothic dentils, a stone architrave dated 1525, a monumental stone fireplace in one of the buildings with scroll-shaped brackets and an imposing architrave decorated with a coat of arms and incorporating an oven and window.
In another building, up to the 1970s there was still the exposed structure of a wood ceiling typical of the 15th century, with wooden posts and brackets.
The village lies upon outcropping rock, where some caves were dug out, so-called buse nella lastra, used to house animals and as storerooms.
