Description
The village of Quinzano was one of the settled parts of the municipality of Scanello. Some of the architectural features of the oldest buildings can attest to the importance of the place as early as between the 13th and 14th centuries.
Established as a garrison to defend the road leading through Gragnano to the village of La Fonte and then the road to Tuscany, it had at least two tower houses, accessible only by means of wooden ladders which could be pulled up. These were replaced with stone porches and steps.
Recent renovations have partly modified the village's appearance since the 1970s and it is usually the roof which substantially alters the building features.
