Description:

There is mention in historical records of a castle existing between the 10th and 11th centuries, perhaps where the church was later built.

The name might derive from "gatt", woods in old Germanic, hence "valley of the woods".

A farming village whose characteristics were mainly defined between the 18th and 19th centuries, as the simplicity of the buildings seems to confirm.

One of them has a pair of parallel stairways on the front, a fairly unusual feature in this part of the Apennines.

The "roses" engraved in a 19th century doorway were the symbol of the Comacine Masters, who worked in these areas between the 13th and 15th centuries, and have remained as a reminder of past traditions.

The balchio, or profferlo (unroofed porch) was present here as well. The date 1707 is engraved in an architrave.

This village, like elsewhere, underwent building works that were not always correctly planned or executed.
