Subject: Dispersed buildings
Type: Tower
Municipality: Monterenzio
Description
The castle situated on Monte Terenzio already existed in the 10th century; the place called Monte Renzio could be the site of the building called La Torre or Torre dei Pagani ("Pagans' Tower").
It is a 14th-century building which served as a dwelling and defensive outpost.
The masonry facing is well preserved and the doorways and windows are original. The tower may have originally been taller.
An out-of-place feature in this classic example of a tower house, as of the date of the survey (1972), is the recently added outdoor stairway.
