Loiano - Church SS. Stefano and Martino – Scascoli

Via Scascoli
Loiano

The Church of Scascoli, dedicated to Saints Stephen and Martin, was rebuilt after wartime devastation at the initiative of Don Eugenio Andreoli, parish priest of Scascoli from 1942 to 1987.

Squared sandstone blocks originating from the destroyed church of Sant'Ansano in Brento were used for the facade.

The main altar, designed by Don Andreoli himself in a fine classical style, was made by melting down bronze shells used by American artillery units.

If you continue along the road that descends toward the river Savena, you can reach and admire the majestic gorges of Scascoli, with their steep walls looming over the course of the river.
