The "Park of Remembrances" is a small but important area situated at the northern entry to the town, where the Futa provincial road (SP 65) and Viale Roma intersect.
As the name says, it is dedicated to remembering and to memory. A first memorial stone was inaugurated on 25 April 2003 to commemorate the Italian soldiers who fought alongside their American allies along the Gothic Line in the last world war.
The medallion on the stone, a work by Luigi Enzo Mattei, depicts an Italian soldier carrying an American soldier who died in combat. On that occasion the town of Monghidoro awarded honorary residency to General Pasquale Vitale, who achieved distinction for his aid to the allies. Subsequently, on 26 March 2006, thanks to contributions of the Lions Club and the National Association of Bersaglieri, the Parco delle Rimembranze, the only place of its kind in Italy, was inaugurated with a plaque commemorating all Italian military personnel who have fallen in peace missions around the world. Considering the different peace missions in which our soldiers are engaged in various parts of the world, the list is unfortunately destined to get longer and will be constantly updated.
Continuing toward Florence, near Le Filigare, you will find the customs building between the former Papal States and Grand Duchy of Tuscany, with two pillars marking the border, and 20 km further, near the Futa Pass, a German cemetery where 30,800 soldiers who died during the Second World War were laid to rest.
