Dating from the 13th-14th century, it was originally a fortified building used as a hermitage.
A brick set into the wall shows the date 1529.
The building underwent modifications over time: it was first turned into a convent, then into the parish church of Santa Maria di Bortignano, and was eventually stripped of religious functions as a result of Napoleonic suppression.
A few traces of the former use of the building remain on the facade. On the back of this building is the one that housed the convent, next to the tower.
