Subject: Springs and Fountains
Toponym: Pianoro Vecchio
Type: Fountain
Municipality: Pianoro
Locality: Pianoro Vecchio
Description
The fountain is likely to have undergone restoration in the past, given the presence of different materials: the bas-relief depicting the face of a bearded man with tap inserted in his mouth is made of stone and appears decidedly worn; the rest of the fountain, a semicircular basin with a raised back set against a road parapet, appears to be of later date and the reddish colour suggests both granite and an artificial conglomerate.
The fountain is positioned opposite the church standing on the other side of the road; in this point it probably once joined with the old road for Tuscany, which passed through the centre of town.
