Description

There are varying opinions as to the origin of the toponym Bruscandoli (795 m): the root "Brusca-" could be related to Bruscoli and derive from the Gothic "bristan", which means "to break", and with the addition of the suffix it could be interpreted as "place where stubble and twigs are collected"; moreover, a familiar verb in Bolognese dialect is "brusclèr", which means "collect twigs and straw for the fire". It should be said that the place name was sometimes changed into Brescandoli, other times into Briscandoli; in the latter case, the inhabitants of the place are convinced that the origin should be attributed to other dialectical forms.
