Toponym: Torre dei Lupari
Type: Building and annexes
Municipality: Pianoro
Locality: Pianoro
Description
"Building of evident worth, it stands out for the significant characteristics of every element. The tower dates from the 13th century, and the complex underwent modifications in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Unfortunately, some more recent interventions have partly degraded the complex " (source: " Carta dei Beni Culturali e Naturali della Provincia di Bologna - "Map of Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Province of Bologna", Edizioni Alfa, Bologna, 1977).
On one side of the tower, next to the loggia, there is a spiral staircase in a closed cylinder endowed with a bartizan at the top, partly rebuilt in brick.
Walled-off windows and doorways underscore the continuous evolution of the complex, also as far as the height of the floors is concerned.
In one building unit adjacent to the tower, a striking portico overlooks the courtyard, with slightly flattened round brick arches, polygonal pillars and capitals typical of the 15th century.
On the first floor there is a corner loggia on two fronts with segmental arches.
A more recent building unit is endowed with a balchio (porch).
