Loiano - Village of La Guarda

A stopover place on the old route to Tuscany, it also served as a checkpoint, as the name "La Guarda" suggests.

The settlement had already been established by the 14th century, judging from a portal partly concealed by a wall, but other buildings examined show features typical of later centuries: the trapezoidal architrave over the door of the porticoed building, decorated with Comacine symbols and emblem, datable to the 16th century, or the windows of another, finished with a stone cornice, moulded architrave and imposts.
