Pianoro

A monumental complex whose origins date back to the 12th century.

The most recent structures were built in the 19th century.

Situated in the southern part of the complex, at the summit, is a 15th century-style crenellated building featuring a portal with a rounded arch flanked by round windows.

On the first storey there are three double lancet windows with a cylindrical mullion, topped by a coat of arms. On the second storey there are three windows with architraves. At the rear, a long flight of stone steps - restored - climbs up to the servants' lodgings.

Next to the stairway, numerous fossil shells appear in a small annex made of sandstone blocks.
