Only in the area known as Querceto do various buildings still retain some original features. It is worth noting that fossil remains of a fin whale were found in the countryside of Gorgognano in 1965.
They are now on display at the "Giovanni Cappellini" Geology Museum of the University of Bologna. A plaster reconstruction of the marine mammal was erected on the site of the discovery.
