Pianoro - Gorgognano

Via Gorgognano
Pianoro

This village has witnessed many vicissitudes, as revealed by historical documents and topographical maps from different periods.

These places, too, were devastated by bombing along the Gothic Line.

Only in the area known as Querceto do various buildings still retain some original features. It is worth noting that fossil remains of a fin whale were found in the countryside of Gorgognano in 1965.

They are now on display at the "Giovanni Cappellini" Geology Museum of the University of Bologna. A plaster reconstruction of the marine mammal was erected on the site of the discovery.
