On the right side of the Idice river, on a slope consisting prevalently of scaly clay, facing the village of Campeggio, La Martina Park extends over a surface area of about 155 hectares. Instituted by the Province of Bologna in 1972, it includes both man-made woods (reforestation with conifers and broad-leaved trees) and natural woodland (mixed broad-leaved woods, with a prevalence of oaks). It has been recognized as a Site of Community Importance.
The park does not have excessively steep ground and is situated at an elevation of between 500 and 700 metres. It is crossed by a network of roads and marked paths which enable visitors to observe different environments and their respective naturalistic aspects. It has camping facilities, a bar, cafeteria and a room for educational activities.
